Since their breakthrough in the mid 1980s Wingårdhs have been
Sweden’s leading architects. They have proved constant success in
innovation and evolution, while main- taining a deeply rooted pragmatic
and humanistic Nordic tradition in which embracing the resources is key.
‘Our buildings are based on responsiveness. It’s a different ap-
proach, a unique approach,’ says Gert Wingårdh. ‘They deal with Lean
Architecture, a style of architecture which avoids excesses and does as
it should, contributing to and developing the foundation of societies,’
writes the German architecture critic Dirk Meyhöfer in one of the book’s
essays.
